2026-2027 HCS Non-Resident Student Application/CHOOSE Act
Houston County Schools is proud to announce that the district is now a qualified provider under the CHOOSE Act and will begin accepting a limited number of tuition students under established guidelines. Families not qualifying for CHOOSE ACT funds may pay the tuition out of pocket if accepted. Tuition fees are $2,000 for the first child, $1,500 for the second child, and $1,000 for each additional child for the 2026-2027 school year.
District administrators emphasize that this opportunity does not mean open enrollment or unlimited growth. Acceptance of tuition students will be selective and strategic. The district is not required to accept all applicants and will only admit students who meet clearly defined qualifications.
Students seeking admission must meet standards related to attendance, academic performance, discipline history, and other school-related factors where applicable. Those accepted into the district will be held to the same high expectations as all Houston County students. Continued enrollment will depend on maintaining these standards, and students who fail to meet expectations may be subject to removal from the program.
The district will accept only the number of students each school can appropriately accommodate at each campus. In recent years, Houston County Schools has strengthened its facilities across campuses, removing portable classrooms at most locations and creating available classroom space. Enrollment decisions will be made carefully to ensure optimal class sizes and maintain instructional quality.
This initiative supports balanced classroom sizes across the district while providing additional funding that strengthens long-term financial stability. Increased enrollment through qualified tuition students will assist in levelizing funds for teacher units and sustaining strong instructional staffing without overburdening existing schools.
District leaders stress that this is intentional, controlled growth designed to enhance educational opportunities while protecting the quality of education for current students.
To apply for entrance to Houston County Schools with or without applying for or receiving funds from the CHOOSE Act, the HCS Non-Resident application must be completed in full by March 16, 2026, with all attendance, academic transcripts, discipline records, and testing records. Required documentation will be reviewed and may result in the rejection of the student’s application. Notification of application status will be emailed to parents starting April 10, 2026. Houston County Schools will not be responsible for requesting records from other schools.
