The Alabama Virtual Library (AVL) is another resource you can use with your children at home.

The AVL provides all students, teachers, and citizens of the State of Alabama with online access to essential libraries and information resources. It is primarily a group of online databases that have magazine, journal, and newspaper articles for research.  My favorites are Britannica, PebbleGo, and the Explore and Draw eBooks.

Accelerated Reader Program

  • Parents,

Students in the traditional school setting will have access to library books in the classroom, but these books will not be sent home due to Covid-19 guidelines for student materials.  We encourage you to utilize the resources listed below in order to access books for your child.  Each student will take the STAR assessment in a few weeks in order to determine their optimal reading level.  Your child’s AR reading level range will be sent by your child’s teacher so that you will be able to help your child find appropriate eBooks or other reading materials at home.

Your child may take AR tests at home for now.  Parents of children utilizing the virtual option will have this as an optional tool to enhance your child’s learning experience.  This program offers comprehension tests for books.  The assignment list on the right-hand side of the home page will list books and level records for your child.   Please monitor the use of the program so that they do not take tests on books they have not read.  We always encourage students to read their books 3-5 times before testing, unless it is a chapter book.  We would encourage students to take one or two tests per day.  Students are only allowed to test on each book once per year, so keep in mind that the tests they take at home will be unavailable to them for the upcoming school year.  We have added a link below for you to check for tests on your books that you have access to at home or eBooks online.
