Wicksburg High School is a K-12 school nestled in the southwestern corner of Houston County. We serve a rural community that takes pride in its school. Wicksburg’s population is growing, and the school’s excellent academic reputation is a large factor in that growth.
“Striving for excellence”, the school’s motto, is embraced by faculty and students alike. Our elementary teachers use research-based, explicit instruction in reading. Each student receives individualized lessons in small groups. The success of this program has been phenomenal! Math is taught using the Saxon curriculum, which is based on repetition of concepts and hands-on learning. Music classes, computer classes, and daily physical education enrich each student’s education.
Students at the middle school and high school levels follow a rigorous curriculum. Each student takes yearly courses in math, science, social studies, and English language arts. A variety of electives are offered to supplement these core subjects. High school students can receive a college preparatory education by enrolling in honors classes. Dual-enrollment classes are also offered through local colleges for students who want to get a head start on their collegiate career.
There are extracurricular activities in the Wicksburg community for students of every age. Elementary students can choose to participate in 4-H, Boys’ or Girls’ Scouts, or a variety of youth league sports. Middle school students have the chance to join the band or the Junior Beta Club. High school students can join a variety of special-interest clubs and community service organizations including Key Club, Student Council, FFA, FCCLA, FTA, and Beta Club. The Golden Regiment Band and the WHS Chorus provide experience in performing arts. Both middle and high school students may try out for athletic teams such as cheerleading, volleyball, basketball, football, softball, and baseball.
