Webb Elementary School Talented and Gifted
The Houston County Talented and Gifted Program is targeted for 3rd - 6th grade Talented and Gifted students. All experiences are applicable as enrichment for suggested grade levels. They are also designed to involve students in real research and problem-based learning. Students will also be challenged by activities and lessons with rigor and relevance based on Depth and Complexity, and Thinking Like a Disciplinarian (TLAD). Additionally, experiences are designed to facilitate student's understanding of important concepts such as creativity, imagination, change, etc. The students will infer that the information presented can be utilized in real world situations and that they can have a positive and/or negative impact on society. Gifted Specialists will emphasize the complexity of each topic and highlight various perspectives and points of view. Students will be encouraged to develop their own informed opinions. Gifted specialists will emphasize discipline and career fields.
Our goal is to develop conceptual thinkers who critically analyze what they hear, read, see, and actively experience. Activities are beneficial to the Auditory Learner, Visual Learner, and Tactile/Kinesthetic Learner, and also play to the strengths of the various multiple intelligences of students. To this end, our program utilizes, but is not limited to, the following models which promote critical thinking: Bloom's Taxonomy, Taylor Talents, Multiple Intelligences, Strategic Planning, Triarchic Intelligence Theory, Habits of the Mind, Kaplan's Depth and Complexity, and Socratic Circles.
