Mrs. Whatley received a Bachelor of Arts from The University of Alabama with a major in Honors English and a minor in Speech and Spanish in May 1979. She also earned certification in English Education (Secondary Education) at that time. Mrs. Whatley later received a Master of Science degree in Education with a concentration in English from Troy State University in May 2003.

Mrs. Sharon P. Whatley

Born to a military family from Ft. Rucker, Alabama, Mrs. Whatley has traveled extensively throughout the United States and the world.  She has moved 21 times in her lifetime, and she spent six months student teaching in Quito, Ecuador, at the Collegio Americana. She still enjoys seeing the world and loves visiting the birthplaces of both American and international authors as she travels.

She has been married to her husband Gavin Whatley for over 35 years, and she enjoys spending time with the families of her two sons, Ben and Ryan Whatley.  She also has two young grandsons.

In her spare time, Mrs. Whatley likes to read, write, draw, paint and ride horseback. She is also a member of Therapy Dogs International and visits nursing homes, libraries, and hospitals with her therapy dog, Kaz.
