Summer School 2021

  • Houston County Schools will offer a virtual summer school this summer. A student can recover a course that they failed in the past, take a course to catch up on credits to graduate with their cohort, take an elective course, or take a refresher course (a course already taken, but would like additional practice. A refresher course would receive no extra credit for the course.) All courses will be virtual using the Edgenuity platform. Students will not report to their home school to complete courses; they will complete courses from home.

A student can take a maximum of two courses. If two courses are requested, the students would be assigned the two courses to start on June 3, 2021 and must be completed by July 28, 2021. If a student requests only one course, then the course can be assigned on June 3rd or July 1st. If the one course is assigned on June 3rd, then the course must be completed by June 30, 2021. If the one course is assigned on July 1st, then the course must be completed by July 28, 2021.

There will be a $100 fee for each course taken. The fee must accompany the student's registration form. The form and fee payment can be dropped off at your local school. Checks can also be made out to your local school (ex. Wicksburg High School). The deadline for turning in the Summer School registration form and fee payment is June 1, 2021.

    Elementary School Reading Camp

    June 1st Through July 1st

    Readers Make Leaders!

Houston County Elementary Schools are offering a free Summer Reading Camp for our registered students. The camp is for students who will be entering first through sixth grade for the 2021-2022 school year. Students must attend the camp where they are enrolled in school. The camp hours will be from 8 am-12 pm daily. Camp begins on June 1st and will end on July 1st. The first week will begin on Tuesday and end on Thursday. The remaining weeks will run Monday through Thursday. Students are asked to bring a daily snack. Lunch will be provided. Bus transportation will also be available.

The focus of the Summer Reading Camp is to help students further develop the foundations of reading. The activities will be small group instruction, computer assisted instruction and independent practice. Struggling readers are especially encouraged to take advantage of the Reading Camp! Deadline for registration is Wednesday, May 12th. Spaces will be limited. If an elementary school reaches registration capacity prior to the Wednesday, May 12th deadline, that school's registration will be closed.

Remember the old adage: learn to read, read to learn. The ability to read is very important in school and throughout life. Help your child become a proficient reader. Sign up your child for the Elementary School Reading Camp!

Please complete the registration form. Students will meet in the school library on the first day. Bus riders need to be in front of their house at 7:20 am on the first day. The students should arrive home by 12:45. Bus riders will be contacted by the Transportation Department with a pick-up and drop off time after the first day.

Remember registration is limited, so sign up today. To sign up please check your child's Houston County Google Email for the link.

Make sure you specify your email and phone call as a HelpDesk issue for Virtual Students and Parents.

We now have 3 people working at the Career Academy to take Helpdesk calls for issues from Virtual Students.

These people need to get the help calls from students or parents concerning issues with the Virtual School Connections. If the caller has problems and needs someone to help then we want the help desk to get the call or email first so they can possibly help and keep teachers and administrators out of issues with simple fixes. These people are working at the Career Center and have access to Mr. Lovrich and Mrs. Minniefield as well and can forward issue directly to them if they cannot help them or the local school if they cannot help them.

They have been instructed to check their voicemail constantly so a message can be left and they will call back. Please, take advantage of this resource to allow to allow our teachers time to teach.
